What we can do in saving the Gaia other than the usual methods like off the electricity when not in use or use recycled papers etc? Tell us more about the interesting and innovative way on how to keep our environment green and friendly in our daily life.
Go green doesn’t mean you need to put in a lot of effort, indeed there are many little ways we can take note of...
Little GREEN Note # 11 – Are you a fan fan?
Choose a well ventilated space or using fan (instead of air conditioner) not only save you on the bill, it provides better environment for your body system to work on.
Little GREEN Note # 10 – Organic = Green?
Just imagine less/no pesticide, less soap (chemical-derived) and less pollutants are required to produce organic ingredients/products. By supporting organic products, you are doing yourself and the environment a good deed!
Little GREEN Note # 9 – How much space do you need?
Having a car might be more convenient, but not anymore with more and more traffic jam, higher petrol cost and rising ERP charges. Think about public transport, carpool or even a 5 mins walk to supermarket, it just save you so much space, time and money.
Little GREEN Note # 8 – Does bigger cup or water bottle help?
Yes... Imagine how many times you need to wash a small cup / water bottle after each consumption? In fact, you will become lazy to go for more water. Get a bigger container / bottle for your office and home now !
Little GREEN Note # 7 – Is it a habit or is it necessary?
Are you using / taking what you really need eg. drinking straw for caned drink, disposable chopstick when eating at home or extra sauces when dining out? Wastage will incur more production of unnecessary items, the extra cost will ultimately add on to the consumers' prices.
Little GREEN Note # 6 – Why green plastic bag or utensils.
Other than re-use the plastic bags for rubbish and waste collection, you can choose to use greener plastic bags that are made of decomposable materials. There are few disposable utensils that are made of corn, starch etc available in the market, the process of making these utensils are less harmful to the environment too, make your choice wisely.
Little GREEN Note # 5 – Collect water and re-use.
Having a dripping tap or wash your hand frequently? Put a small pail under the water tap, you will be amazed by the amount of water you can collect, re-use the water to clean the floor or toilet bowl.
Little GREEN Note # 4 – Choose iron(less) clothing or materials.
Heat energy generated from any work or machine is irreversible. Save time and electricity when you require less or no ironing for your clothing.
Little GREEN Note # 3 – Combine Payment; Reduce individual receipts
Combine payments with colleagues for your routine lunch getaway at departmental store, such that less paper will be wasted as compared to individual receipts issued.
Little GREEN Note # 2 -- Avoid printing ATM receipts
The printing of ATM receipts not only wastes paper but also creates a litter problem. There are about 1,416 ATM locations provided by the three local banks (DBS/POSB – 676; UOB – 385; OCBC – 355). If there are two people printing receipts from each ATM machine daily, we would end up with more than one million paper receipts annually.

Little GREEN Note # 1 -- Set the right temperature
If using of air conditioner is unavoidable for your sleep, do set the temperature to 24°C to 26°C, and do remember to set the timer as well. This saves you cost of electricity as well as keeping the environment greener. Plus, periodic servicing will make sure the efficiency of the air-con stay high.
